THE SHOULDER
The Shoulder screens prospective clients to determine whether an
individual is appropriate and eligible for treatment. The Shoulder is a
strictly voluntary program. Many individuals need treatment for their
addiction, but The Shoulder is a place for individuals who want treatment,
as well as need it. Since we are a non-profit, there is a high demand for
our services. Only those men who meet our criteria and sincerely desire
our assistance will be considered for admission.

The Shoulder is not a medical facility, and cannot admit someone who
needs medical supervision during detoxification. A client is required to be
detoxified from alcohol and drugs
PRIOR to admission.

Other requirements for potential clients include:
 A minimum age of 18
 A driver's license or valid picture identification card
 A social security card
 A current (within the last 6 months) TB test
 Proof of registration and automobile
insurance if clients intend to operate a vehicle
while in the program.  A counselor must
approve a client’s privilege to operate a vehicle.
 A non-refundable $600.00 admission fee
due by the date of admission. This fee is to
cover pre-admission expenses, and will cover the first week’s treatment
fees. The Shoulder has also discovered that when an individual has a
financial investment in treatment, he is much more likely to participate
actively.
 A client must obtain full-time (40 hour per week) employment. If a client
does not have a job, he has 10 business days after admission to obtain
gainful employment.

WAITING LIST
Due to our limited size and the increasing demand of our services, The
Shoulder often has a waiting list for available slots. When this happens,
an individual is placed on a waiting list in the order in which he has
applied and completed the initial screening process.

While on the waiting list, an individual is required to perform the following
tasks daily:

1. Call The Shoulder to check in.
NOTE: Calling The Shoulder every day demonstrates a person’s
willingness and seriousness about wanting treatment. If a client on the
waiting list does not call The Shoulder every day, his name will be
removed from the list. Potential clients may also be advanced on the
waiting list as beds become available earlier than scheduled. The daily
check-in call keeps clients current on their admission date status.

2. Attend a 12-Step meeting.
NOTE: This could include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous,
Celebrate Recovery or the like.

3. Obtain phone numbers of other 12-Step members.
